The Cyprus Flag Administration (Department of Merchant Shipping) recently launched its new online electronic seafarer's application system for the submission of Cyprus Seafarer's Identification and Sea Service Record Book applications and the recognition of certificates of competency issued by overseas countries.
For a transitional period lasting until December 31 2016, the electronic system will run alongside the existing paper-based system; applications can be submitted via either system. However, from the beginning of 2017, the electronic system will be mandatory.
An application form for access to the new system is available on the department's website.
