Christian Bahr, Cyprus Flag Administration sales executive in Germany, commented: “Cyprus has become one of the world’s largest and best known shipping centres. In today’s challenging operating environment, choosing a high quality, sustainable flag that is committed to safety, security and excellence can pay dividends. Ease of registration, low registration fees, a competitive tonnage tax scheme, strategic geographical location, and robust regulatory protection are all key considerations. And as shipowners are actively exploring ways of improving margins, I have no doubt that the shipowning community here in Germany will be extremely interested in the many benefits that Cyprus can offer.”

As a well-established and quality Flag, with a strong and reliable professional services infrastructure that provides a round-the-clock service, plus a package of favourable incentives, Cyprus understands that a personal approach and continuous flow of communication is extremely important to owners and operators. Its comprehensive and competitive Tonnage Tax System (TTS) - the only tonnage tax scheme of an open registry in Europe to be approved by the European Commission - and inclusion on white lists such as the Paris and Tokyo MOUs also provide tangible benefits to owners.

Marios Demetriades, The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, said: “The Cyprus flag has grown extensively over the past thirty years and now ranks amongst the top international fleets, with the third largest fleet within the European Union. As a well-established and quality Registry that’s committed to safety, security and excellence, the benefits of flagging with Cyprus are of considerable interest to German shipowners. With the appointment of Mr Bahr we hope to continue this growth, and look forward to supporting him in this new role.”
