(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) UK P&I club has developed a series of Lessons Learnt training videos. The videos are aimed at providing an inter-active learning experience for seafarers of all ranks by examining thought provoking incidents as well as suggesting actions which may have prevented them from happening or to mitigate their consequences.

At the end of each video, the seafarer is invited to reflect upon lessons learnt arising from the incident and how they could apply to their own shipboard working practices or systems. The videos are designed to be short and to the point, leaving sufficient scope for both seafarer and trainer to consider the underlying root causes of the incident.

In this animated training video we look at what went wrong in a collision with a fishing vessel and look at what could have been done to prevent the incident.

  1. General Tips to avoid such avoidable collisons:
    1) Clear and firm Communication between two Stations is Must.
    2) Fishing boats crews should be trained for Ships traffic Rules.
    3) Big Ships should avoid highest degree of Control over its Maneuverability by reducing speed to fully stop such as in this case sudden and frequent change of course looks unprofessional action.
