(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) Eni presents this edition of the World Gas and Renewables Review which provide figures and statistics on natural gas, biofuels and modern renewables (wind and solar).

The key findings from the World Gas and Renewables Review are:

  • Gas demand has been strong in 2017 (+3.3%), well above the average growth rates of the last decade. Consumption grew in all the regions, especially in Asia-Pacific and China where Battle for Blue Skies policies supported coal-to-gas switch. Europe kept growing for the third year in a row with a robust +4.9%.
  • Australian production, thanks to LNG contributions, recorded a tremendous increase (+21%) while United States is still the world’s largest natural gas producer even if its 2017 production increase was marginal (+0.7%).
  • It is also important to highlight the strong increase of Egyptian production (+23%). Egypt overtook Nigeria becoming the second main African producer (after Algeria) thanks to Zohr field start-up.
  • Renewables, despite still giving a modest contribution to power generation, have grown rapidly in recent years, accompanied by sharp cost reductions. Solar photovoltaic, in particular, recorded huge capacity additions (+30%).
  • As a whole, wind and solar installed generation capacity account now for more than 40% of all renewables and about 13% of all power sources.

Natural gas and renewables are assuming a progressively greater role in the energy panorama accompanying the transition to a less carbon-intensive and more sustainable energy system.

We hope that once again this edition of the World Oil, Gas and Renewables Review gives detailed tools for interpreting the dynamics of the world energy market and provides a useful source of information for both specialists in the sector and all other readers.
