(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement S.A. (TCM) has commenced the fleetwide roll out of the electronic Oil Record Book from Prevention at Sea (P@S).

Mr Leonidas Margetis, Sustainability & Environmental Compliance Manager with TCM said: «The decision to opt for the electronic Oil Record Book from Prevention at Sea Ltd was taken by the TCM Management since both are aligned with our drive for excellence in managing our People and Ships as well as using reliable innovative solutions for data-driven decision making».

TCM took the decision for a fleetwide rollout of the maritime software after successful trials on vessels and office staff, in order to verify the software’s features as well as ease of installation, use and acceptance by users.

In addition, P@S has authorized the “Maria Tsakos” TCM Academy to deliver training and certification to Tsakos Group seafarers on their solutions. The Trainers have been duly accredited by P@S and seafarers are now trained and certified on the maritime software before their embarkation.

Some of the highlighted advantages of moving away from the traditional paper Oil Record Book recording and the installation and use of the electronic Oil Record Book are;

  1. Full visibility and transparency of records and logbook entries onboard and in the office
  2. Encryption backup both on the cloud and locally for data security and disaster recovery
  3. Built-in rules to help seafarers in ensuring regulatory compliance by avoiding wrong entries and eliminating the risk of detentions or fines
  4. Alert functions notifying office personnel for uncommon entries which require investigation

The Prevention at Sea electronic Oil Record Book is compliant with MEPC 312(74), permitting the replacement of ship paper books by electronic books since 1st October 2020.

Founder and CEO of Prevention at Sea Ltd, Mr Petros Achtypis, stated: «Undoubtedly, the cooperation with TCM on this project is a tremendous step forward for our company. We thank TCM for the continued trust in our maritime services and software. We are honoured to see our ship e-books incorporated in the training roster of the “Maria Tsakos” TCM Academy».
