Cadet Manager is responsible for the selection, planning, management, career development and welfare of cadets and junior officers within the CSM cadet programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the generation of the cadet and junior officer pool to satisfy the fleet talent development.
  • Manage the quality assurance of cadet recruitment process ensuring high quality future crew development
  • Manage the planning process for cadets and junior officers.
  • Ensure career progression, mentoring and guidance is provided to cadets and junior officers.
  • Collaborate with maritime academies and institutions such as IMEC to ensure quality and standards of cadet recruitment are in line with CSM requirements to take advantage of any scholarships or other external party funded programmes
  • Manage the cadet budget and cooperating with the Accounting Department on monthly reports related to cadets.
  • Ensure an on board training programme is in place utilizing the latest technology for eTRB and other digital systems for cadet task book management
  • Ensuring that the cadet and junior officer programme develops the competency requirements needed by the fleet.
  • Promoting and supporting efforts for continuous improvement
  • Interviewing and pre-screening of cadets joining the programme
  • Any other special tasks as may be assigned
  • Advocates for the welfare and wellbeing of all cadets and junior officers
  • Strives to achieve a cadet programme which focusses on developing well rounded, professional seafarers, who have safety and sustainability at the core of their attitudes and values
  • Oversee the female cadet mentoring programme

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of current and impending maritime legislation
  • Knowledge of maritime training and development needs
  • A thorough working knowledge and understanding of STCW as amended
  • An understanding of MLC 2006 as amended
  • A thorough knowledge of core maritime leadership and human element skills
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Good management, organization and planning skills
  • Fluency in English
  • PC / Microsoft Office literate (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
