As the Maritime Subject Matter Expert (SME) at our eLearning company, you will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and validating course content for seafarer training. Your role will also involve reviewing and improving content, staying updated on industry changes, collaborating with instructional designers, eLearning developers and periodically reviewing and updating existing courses. Overall, as the SME, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality training to seafarers and ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a team of SMEs either in-house or outsourced experts, and partner contributors. Provide guidance, support, and clear briefings to ensure they deliver high-quality course content with consistency, accuracy and adherence to the company's quality benchmarks.
  • Monitor the progress of text development projects, closely following up with SMEs to ensure they meet the assigned deadlines.
  • Thoroughly review and validate the content produced by SMEs, ensuring it meets the prescribed standards, is free from plagiarism, and aligns with the most recent international maritime regulations. Provide comments and make improvements to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Create engaging and informative course content for seafarers based on the most recent international maritime regulations and industry trends.
  • Organize maritime webinars and serve as the main speaker on maritime topics.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the maritime industry, including regulations, technology advancements, and emerging trends.
  • Evaluate market needs, identify priority areas for course development, and guide the team in creating courses that address current and emerging industry demands.
  • Work closely with instructional designers to develop immersive and engaging storyboards that align with the learning objectives and principles.

Qualifications:

  • Hold the qualifications of a Chief Officer or Master, with a strong understanding of maritime operations, regulations, and industry best practices. A Train the Trainer Certificate will be considered as an advantage.
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Possess a deep understanding of learning principles and education methodologies, allowing for the translation of complex instructions into clear and concise text.
  • Exhibit excellent writing skills, with a focus on clarity, coherence, and accuracy. Ability to write in a simple, engaging manner while maintaining technical accuracy.
  • Display fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and quality of course content.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver engaging and informative presentations during maritime webinars.
  • Strong leadership abilities, including the capacity to guide, motivate and provide accurate feedback to team of SMEs.
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet project deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment, encouraging teamwork and knowledge sharing among the SMEs.
  • Be comfortable working with various digital tools, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and content development platforms to facilitate smooth workflow and collaboration.
