Job Objective
Assists Fleet Manager to coordinate, monitor and manage the safe, efficient and cost effective operations of all vessels in the fleet and support the Technical Superintendents, Purchase/Technical officers, Marine Superintendents and other fleet team members to coordinate all vessel operations adequately with a view towards impeccable repair and maintenance activities, regulatory compliance, timely and quality vessel inspections, vessel dockings, major repair/overhaul projects and proactive communication with vessel owners. Keep abreast of developments and owners requirements and advise Fleet Manager accordingly.EnsureOHSE, Energy and Environmental compliance policies are upheld.

What will your responsibilities be?
- Reviews and is up-to-date with the developments in the maritime industry, in order to identify and propose relevant improvements and advanced technical solutions to Fleet Manager/Director.
- Assists in the monitoring of the safe and efficient operation of the SMC Technical & marine operations. Encourages all relevant team members to actively use the company developed software systems and IT platforms
- Understands the contractual agreements with customers to be able to deliver the same with regards to the ship management services for each assigned vessel, in a safe and cost efficient manner.
- Monitors all vessels trading certificates to ensure compliance with existing maritime legislation, safety regulations and operational standard requirements of all regulatory bodies.
- Assists in making accurate vessel operational budgets with regards to maintenance, repair, dry docking, spare parts, stores, consumables, technical training of seafarers, implementation of safety infrastructure, etc., and supports the SMC Fleet Manager/Fleet Director for the efficient follow-up and monitoring of all relevant activities within this approved budget.
- Monitors the overall technical operation of the vessels, ensures the timely and accurate completion of dry-docking and of other relevant shipboard maintenance and repair activities within approved cost, in order to support the operational effectiveness of vessels and increase customer’s satisfaction and commitment.
- Manages all vessel visits, audits and inspections effectively right from planning to implementation and follow up with the aim of supporting and enhancing the operational efficiency of the fleet. Ensures that vessel visit reports are made timely, are accurate and submitted to the owner, Fleet Director and/or MD to allow a detailed analysis of the broad and specific issues affecting vessel operations and the plan for proposed corrective actions.
- Liaises with LPSQ department in order to obtain the necessary information that will secure the alignment of all technical requirements and standards of the fleet assigned with Company’s LPSQ policy as well as with relevant legislation, contributing towards environmental protection and enhancement of company’s image.
- Engages actively with existing clients with appropriate communication, understand their needs and by timely submission of analytical reports to give them a fair idea of the overall condition of their vessel.
- Participates in the reviews, development of potential improvements, proposes solutions on technical issues identified from his/her team, in order to improve the proper management of the vessels in the fleet.
- Participates in the continuous review of department processes and effectiveness by identifying issues for consideration and areas for improvement to enhance the safe and cost efficient operations in line with customer requirements.
- Participates in the development of department’s budget, supports its accurate execution, identifies cost saving opportunities and proposes corrective actions in case of deviations, in order to ensure compliance with set targets.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Nautical Science, Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent, or
- Chief Engineer’s or Master’s qualification
Work Experience:
- 3 years as a Technical, Marine or LPSQ Superintendent on the relevant Oil/Gas tanker or dry cargo/container vessels, or
- 3 years of relevant work experience within a ship management/owning company
Job-Specific Skills:
- Strong knowledge of vessels’ technical requirements and voyage regulations
- Excellent project management skills
- Advanced knowledge of the local and regional market of technical subcontractors
- Good negotiation skills

- Fluency in English
