We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Port Captain / Marine Superintendent to join our Company and oversee the operational and safety performance of our managed Bulk Carrier fleet, including Capesize, Kamsarmax and Panamax vessels.

Key Duties

  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of assigned bulk carriers, in full compliance with Company policies, Flag State, Class and international regulations (ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC).
  • Monitor and evaluate vessel performance, voyage efficiency, fuel consumption, and cargo operations, providing guidance and corrective actions where required.
  • Plan, conduct, and report regular vessel inspections and navigation audits, ensuring adherence to operational, safety, and maintenance standards.
  • Assist Masters and officers on board in resolving day-to-day operational, navigational, and cargo-related matters.
  • Participate in and lead investigations of incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing root-cause analyses and implementing preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with Technical, Operations and Crewing Departments to ensure timely RightShip inspections, general maintenance, manning, and certification compliance.
  • Oversee port operations, vetting inspections, PSC inspections, and cargo handling activities, liaising with charterers, agents, and terminals to ensure smooth port calls.
  • Review voyage instructions, cargo stowage plans, and documentation to ensure safe and efficient loading/discharging operations, of the Represented Fleet’s bulk carrier vessels.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS), including development and review of procedures, risk assessments, and training programs.
  • Represent the Company during internal/external audits, flag/class inspections, and client meetings.
  • Undertake any ad-hoc tasks and responsibilities assigned by the CEO and/or Senior Management.

Qualifications

  • Master Mariner Certificate of Competency. Any additional qualifications will be considered accordingly.
  • Minimum 5 years sea service in command on ocean-going Bulk Carriers, preferably Capesize, Kamsarmax and Panamax vessels.
  • Shore-based experience as Port Captain, Marine Superintendent, or similar operational role within a reputable ship-owning or ship-management company handling bulk carriers of the above size, will be an advantage.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international maritime conventions, ISM/ISPS/MLC Codes, and Flag State requirements.
  • Proven experience with dry bulk cargo operations, voyage planning, port operations, and terminal interface management.
  • Experience with PSC, vetting, RightShip, and navigation audits will be considered a strong advantage.
  • Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Greek or any other language apart from English will be considered an advantage.
