DB Profile 3Dromon Bureau of Shipping (DBS) has been established in 2003 as an independent International Classification Society dedicated to provide classification and statutory certification services to ships and other marine structures, with the objective of protecting the environment and life at sea.

Dromon has 18 regional offices with more than 50 surveyors providing on-time and independent services to their clients.  The extensive experience is assessing the design and construction of ships and other marine related structures has established Dromon as one of the leading independent classification societies.

The efficiency and performance of Dromon is based on the skills and competency of its people.  Through research and development the Organization ensures continues technical knowledge and updating that focus on its mission to meet the needs of its clients and at the same time be beneficial to the community.

The Organization maintains a Quality Management System assessed and registered against:

  • ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management System
  • ISO/IEC 17020:2012 for Inspection Bodies
  • OHSAS 18001:2007 for Health and Safety Management System

The system covers classification of ships and statutory marine certification services on behalf of various flag Administrations.

Dromon main services consist of:

  1. Ship Classification

Classification of ships and other marine floating structures is carried out according to the requirements specified in Dromon Rules and Regulations.  The Organization holds knowledge that is available in the form of personnel expertise, standards, databases and competent network of surveyors ensuring adequate presence in major ports.  Vast of Dromon portfolio is concentrated in the classification and technical assessment of ships.

  1. Statutory Certification

The Organization is authorized by various flag Administrations to act on their behalf to conduct surveys and issue certificates in accordance with the IMO International Conventions, Codes as well as national requirements pertaining to ship safety and the prevention of marine pollution.  For Dromon authorization matrix click here

  1. Ships in service

Dromon is accepting ships to be transferred from any Society.  Following successful completion of a survey the Surveyor issues on spot the applicable Classification and Statutory Certificates.

  1. Approval of plans and manuals

The Engineering Department of the Organization holds knowledge and extensive experience on the design and modification of ships and other marine related structures.  It undertakes reviews and approvals in accordance with Dromon Rules and Regulations as well as national and international standards.  The department can also support and guide at any stage of design, modification or survey of a ship ensuring the very highest standards of safety, quality and reliability.  In addition, Dromon can review and approve statutory manuals and calculations on behalf of various flag Administrations.

  1. Approval of service suppliers

Dromon offers certification to firms that provide various services on board ships.  Among the certifications Dromon offers include firms engaged in thickness measurements, in-water surveys, surveys and maintenance of fire extinguishing equipment and systems, servicing of inflatable liferafts, inflatable lifejackets, hydrostatic release units, inflatable rescue boats, servicing and testing of radio communication equipment etc.

  1. Port State Control Support

Dromon can assist and prepare a vessel prior a Port State Control (PSC) inspection.  The Organization’s know-how and expertise on PSC matters has given Dromon the necessary capability to support and help clients avoid possible deficiencies that may result in detention.

  1. Research and Development

Research and Development (R&D) services are the main pillar of Dromon activities.  The Organization gives great attention and resources to gain in-depth knowledge on international rules and regulations as well as updating its Classification Rules.  Dromon R&D is taking ideas into practice aiming to improve quality, ship safety and the protection of the marine environment.

  1. Emergency Response Team

During an emergency situation on board your asset you need a reliable partner to assist and minimize the losses.  Dromon has developed an Emergency Response Team (ERT).  The ERT is a 24/7 service recruited by experience personnel in maritime casualties and accident investigation using the most competent tools.  Dromon ERT can offer reliable information on ship’s stability and strength as well as guide clients in the development of ship specific emergency response plans helping you minimize losses and avoid environmental pollution during an incident.  This service is available to any type of ship, independent to the Classification Society.

In 2014, Dromon has introduced the online system namely ERETES (visit: eretes.dromon.com).  The system is an online platform for ship owners, managers as well as flag Administrations of Dromon to retrieve information about their fleet.  The platform can be used to export an official survey status report, download copies of issued certificates, approved manuals, request surveys etc.
