(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) There are many common or interfacing requirements between the ISM code and ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001, therefore any combination of these systems leads to a more efficient way of managing safety, quality, environmental issues, occupational health and safety and Energy Management.
These management systems share many common requirements and the continual improvement goal. They differ in their approach and degree of prescription, nevertheless, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 standards are compatible in content, terminology and have a lot of overlap requirements.
The ISM Code focuses on the safe management and operation of ships and pollution prevention.
ISO 9001 series is designed to ensure that customer requirements for quality are met.
ISO 14001 provides the elements of an effective environmental management system.
ISO 45001 gives requirements for an occupational health and safety management system, to enable an organisation to control its risks and improve its performance.
ISO 50001 provides a framework to improve and optimise the way energy is managed.
These standards together with the ISM Code are complementary in nature and may be integrated in one management system.
