Overall Purpose of The Job          

The Environmental and Sustainability Officer is a subject expert and the Ambassador of Oceanic's ESG Sustainability Strategy. Supports the implementation of the ESG Sustainability Strategy including the environmental and supply chain sustainability objectives.

Assists when needed on the day-to-day operations of the HSQE department and contributes to the application of effective Health, Safety Quality and Environmental management, by providing support to the business.

Assists the various departments swiftly and promptly with information or other supportive services that may be requested.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks   

Promotes and assists in the successful implementation of the ESG Sustainability Strategy, through monitoring, analysis and reporting activities, and formatting such to form KPI’s for reporting.

Collaborates with the relevant departments for the successful implementation of the ESG Sustainability Strategy.

Participates and assists to organize relevant events (donations, charities, and other CSR activities).

Coordinate all waste management practices in line with the Company’s goals. Responsible for the Recycling Initiative at the office and at key ports in collaboration with our suppliers. Responsible for identifying new opportunities to expand the recycling initiative in new ports.

Brings awareness regarding climate change and circular economy while monitoring relevant policy changes.

Promotes energy efficiency: Chair meetings, prepares reports and takes initiatives on how to achieve measurable targeted KPIs.

Maintenance and improvement of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems. Ensures compliance with ISO 14001, through recordkeeping. Assist in ISO 14001 preparation for internal and external audits.

Manages the Environmental and Sustainability related training sessions (webinars, LMS trainings etc.) to relevant office personnel and seafarers.

Prepares in collaboration with the HSEQ Manager the Sustainability Section for Oceanic’s Quarterly Editorial and other promotional material.

Assist and work with HSQE Manager and other management functions to develop maintain and improve the effectiveness of the HSEQ system.

Promote and manage excellent relationship with suppliers and other service partners.

Liaise with wider Group Environmental Teams /Committees on upcoming sustainability projects and strategies.

Support all team members on site offering expertise and advice to improve HSEQ performance.

To be aware and up to date with new legislation whilst maintaining a working knowledge of all HSEQ legislation and developments that affect business.

To cooperate with all personnel and promote a friendly and safe working environment within the company.

To take responsibility of any other coherent responsibilities as they are defined by Management.

Required Experience     

Essential:

Science degree in Environmental Studies or a relevant experience in this field.

Able to work as a member of a team but also capable of working independently, with minimum supervision.

Strong time management and project managements skills for managing tight deadlines.

Passion for Health, Safety, Environment, Quality & Sustainability.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.

Good analytical skills.

Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and Power Point.

The highest personal integrity standards.

A very good command of the English language both written and oral.

Self-motivated and driven.

 

Desirable:

Experience in shipping.
