(www.MaritimeCyprus.com) The ocean is in dire need of help because of all of the plastics, microfibers, runoff and other pollutants plaguing the sea. Conservation International says that about 17.6 billion pounds of plastic alone is dumped into the ocean each year (the equivalent of 57,000 blue whales!).
Luckily, there are many ways we can fight global water pollution. Simple lifestyle changes like reducing our use of plastics and other trasy materials can reduce the amount of trash in circulation. Picking up trash and keeping our neighborhoods clean also prevents trash from trickling into our waterways and eventually back into the ocean.
However, prevention still doesn’t deal with the tons of plastic already in the ocean. This issue is what many clever scientists are tackling. This infographic from Florida Panhandle shows off just a few amazing innovations we’re using to clean up the ocean.
